Treatments
What is Physiotherapy?
Physiotherapy is the treatment of pain and movement restriction with the objective of providing full pain-free movement and function. Treatment is delivered via the use of joint manipulation/mobilization, massage and by directing the patient to self-manage through stretches or strengthening techniques. Treatment can be complemented by acupuncture, electrical modalities and exercise rehabilitation.
Why seek Physiotherapy?
The following are examples of why you might visit a Physiotherapist; waking in the morning with neck pain, spraining an ankle playing football, straining your back while lifting, difficulty reaching above shoulder level, recurrent headaches, back pain after having a baby, knee pain with running, strengthening after hip or knee joint replacement.
For any part of your body causing you pain, a visit to a Physiotherapist should reveal the nature of the problem, how it has occurred and what treatment is necessary to remedy the problem.
What can you expect from your consultation?
When you attend Swinton Physiotherapy for the first time you will undergo an assessment which entails the Physiotherapist asking you questions about the nature of the complaint, followed by observation of your posture and movements. This will require that the particular body part is exposed, however gowns are provided to maintain dignity. A diagnosis will be given and you will be given an idea of the type of treatment required and the approximate number of attendances necessary to remedy your problem.
If the exact diagnosis is unclear then the Physiotherapist may arrange for you to have further investigation via your GP. This could be in the form of x-ray, scan, blood test, or referral to a medical specialist.
